Smashed toenail question (please read additional details)?

I smashed a toenail about 5-6 weeks ago.it was not the whole nail though.its a little less than half.but towards the base of where the nail grows,it is a tiny gap between the skin and the nail.will it heal or fall off? Im just wondering.
