The screen on my ipod was smashed?

I got an Ipod touch 4th generation for Christmas and 2 days ago, my three year old cousin got hold if it and Threw it to the floor, the ipod still works but It cut my fingers trying to use it. If i take it to the apple store, could I get it repaired for free? I havent got the money for a new Ipod and Its something I hate to leave the house without! Please Help me! I love my Ipod touch and dont really want to buy a nano.
